The Saab 900 was produced in two generations, the first ”classic” Saab 900 was in production from 1978 to 1993. “The new generation” followed and was in production until 1998 when the Saab 9-3 was launched. The Saab 900 in general is in many ways a fairly unique car as it has many features and modifications that are not found in most other cars. On the technical side, the engine is installed 'backwards', with power delivered from the crank at the front of the car. The transmission bolts directly to the bottom of the engine to form the oil pan. As such, power from the crank is delivered out of the engine at the front, then transferred down and back to the transmission below, via a set of chain-driven primary gears. Stylistically, the front window of the used Saab 900 is heavily curved in order to improve the visibility. In line with the Saab brands aircraft history, the dashboard is similarly curved and the controls and buttons are placed in order of importance/frequency of use to enhance accessibility. This is why the radio of the Saab 900 is placed higher than in other cars. The hatchback or Combi version of the used Saab 900 is exceptionally spacious and capable of transporting significant amounts of cargo.
